Rs.5 Coins To Be Issued In Bhagat Singh’s Memory: RBI

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon issue Rs.5 coin with portrait of Bhagat Singh with a view to commemorating the great freedom fighter and martyr of India. The coin will be designed by dividing one face of the coin into three portions with two horizontal lines bearing the picture of Lion and Capital of Asoka pillar along with denomination value of Rs.5

The other side will have the potrait of the freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, with the words “Shahid Bhagat Singh Birth Centenary” in English. The years in the figures 1907-2007 in International Numerals shall be shown below the portrait. RBI also said that, the coins will have a diameter of 23mm and would be made of iron and chromium. The RBI said that, the existing coins issued earlier will continue to be legal tender.
