IRDA Launches Website for Consumer Education

Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA) launched an info website to educate the public and insurance policyholders on different aspects of insurance. This exclusive website for consumer education gives information on insurance products including ‘what they need to buy’ and ‘whether they are being offered the right product’.

The chairman of IRDA said that the main objective of the creation of web site is to educate consumers and reach out to all to give certain generic information on the subject in order that they begin to think and seek answers to their questions.

The website portal address: www.policyholder.gov.in is live now and any feedback and suggestions regarding insurance can be sent to the regulator. According to IRDA, the language used in the website will now be English, later it will enable Hindi and so on. The creation of the web site is for spreading awareness about insurance under the initiative of ‘Bima Bemisaal’.

Recently IRDA introduced mobile application to compare insurance products. The application enables real-time mobile-based access to the repository of IRDA which contains details of all the insurance products by accessing portal – www.m.irda.gov.in. The application works on the platforms like Android, iPhone, Nokia and Blackberry. Users with mobiles that enable Internet access can also access the information.
