Changes in the living styles like consumption of urbanized diet and spending sedentary lifestyles may also affect the age of your heart. • Stay away from unhealthy habits like smoking, drinking alcohol, drug abuse, etc.
  • Exercise regularly even if it is moderate
  • Keep a check on your blood pressure and diabetes and try to keep them in control
  • Know your cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Rise of bad cholesterol (LDL) in the body is the leading cause of heart attacks and strokes. So, avoid high saturated fatty foods like fatty animal meat, egg yolk, hydrogenated vegetable oil (dalda), bakery foods, etc.
  • Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and the foods rich in fibre like oats, wholegrain products, etc., which not only reduce the bad cholesterol but also increase the good cholesterol levels in the body
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Stress is a silent killer – it increases blood pressure, bad cholesterol, and heart rate. So, always keep your mind peaceful, stay away from tensions. Regular practice of power exercises such as yoga, meditation, etc., could help you to get relieved from the mental stress.
