I-T Department’s Website Not Accessible for Six Days: Income Tax Dept

Income tax department’s website www.incometaxindiafiling.gov.in will not be accessible for 6 days from 3rd November 2012 as the website portal is being upgraded to provide more facilities like help desk. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) says, current e-filling website is going to get new structure with a new e-filing website with additional services. The website will remain closed from November 3 to November 8, 2012.

According CBDT, a new e-filing project was conceptualised in order to provide e-services to the next generation. Under the new e-filing set-up not only Income Tax return (ITR) forms will change but also, other IT forms are proposed to be made available for electronic filing.

Under the e-filing services, additional services like multiple mode of filing of returns, help desk through call centres, e-mail support, provision of online forms, pre-filing of data in forms etc be available.

According to CBDT, it received Rs 1.64 crore e-returns in 2011-12, up by over 81% against the last fiscal. Over 1.9 crore taxpayers had been registered for e-filing as on March 31, 2012. The due date for submission of ITR-V form relating to income tax returns filed electronically for the year 2010-11 and 2011-12 is extended to December 31.
