Most Retail Investors Stick to Equity Mutual Funds : CRISIL

The research report of rating agency CRISIL shows, over 60% of retail investors have stuck to their investments in equity mutual fund schemes for more than 2 years. It further shows, of the total Rs 1.4 lakh crore of retail investment in equity mutual funds, Rs 85,000 crore investment is continuous for over 2 years.

According to the report, High Net-Worth Individuals (HNIs) who invested over Rs 5 lakh had redeemed over 60% of their portfolio in a period less than two years. The rating agency also says, mutual funds lost over 16 lakh folios over the past six months and these might end with 4.48 crore folios.

The data about investments in retail category shows that, retail folios fell to 4.3 crore by the end of September from 4.5 crore in March 2012. The retail investors have preferred debt-oriented mutual funds and there was rise in retail folios by 10.5% in past 6 months.

According to the overall mutual fund industry, corporates continued to dominate mutual funds with 46% share followed by HNIs with 25% share and retail investors with 23% share.
