Food that contains high amount of sugar is bad for your teeth, what other food can damage your teeth? Following are foods that damage your teeth.
- Hard candies: The sugar candies is harmful to your teeth. Hard candies are more harmful and can easily damage your teeth. These candies stick to the surface of your teeth and takes longer time to get dissolved. Moreover, when you bite on hard candies, there is a risk of your tooth getting cracked.
- Acidic foods: Fruits and vegetables like oranges, grapefruit, lemons and tomatoes have high amount of acid that erodes the teeth enamel (hard and shiny layer of teeth) easily, which becomes painful later. It is often advised to rinse your mouth thoroughly after having such kind of food.
- Starchy Food:
Food that are rich in starch like potatoes, bread, etc. can also damage your teeth, as they are converted into sugar when mixed with saliva. Mostly, this kind of food gets stuck between the teeth where brushing can’t remove this tiny food particles, which can lead to tooth decay.
- Sodas and sporty drinks: Sodas and soft drinks can actually damage your teeth, as there is high amount of sugar added to these drinks. Most soft drinks contain citric acid, which can cause tooth enamel to erode. It is important to consider the amount of soda or soft drinks you consume, how much you consume and how long you keep it your mouth when drinking. In this way, you can prevent the ill effects of soda and sportive drinks.
- Alcohol: Saliva in your mouth acts as a defense to tooth cavities, as it helps in washing away of small food particles that are left after consuming food. Consuming alcohol can dry your mouth. This makes your teeth more prone to tooth decay. Alcohol in excess can dissolve the teeth enamel, making the teeth porous and stained easily.
- Dried fruits: You often snack on dried fruits in between your meals which is not good for your teeth, because they contain concentrated sugar and sticks on your teeth, especially raisins, apricots and anjeer which sticks easily to your teeth and takes time to get dissolved leaving your teeth more prone to cavities.
Avoiding these foods as far as possible, will help you minimize the damage to your teeth.
