Avoid Dry Skin In Winter By Using Moisturizers
In winter, the common and sometimes worse skin problem is Dry skin also known as “xerosis” or “asteatosis”. This occurs when environmental humidity is low and can be seen in people of all ages. It mostly affects arms, legs, and sometimes trunk of the body. The problem associated with dry skin is, it causes itching, and it leads scaly and red skin. In order to overcome this problem, the skin must be moist.
When to apply Body lotion?
- Body lotion should be applied all over the body immediately after having bath (without rubbing with towel) on water itself, it helps to make the skin softer, smoother and less possible to become dry, cracked and itchy. Apply moisturizer within three minutes after getting out of water as it traps and seals water in the skin.
- Moisturizer should be applied in morning after bath and in evening before going to sleep at places where skin is dry and itchy.
Moisturizer is generally applied to face and also can be applied to body. But body lotion should not be applied to face. Both are used to nourish the dry skin.
Types of Body moisturizers
There are four classes of body moisturizers. In decreasing order of moisturization, they are given below
- Ointment moisturizers: They have greasy or oily consistency, but have considerable ability to trap moisture in the skin. Best example is Vaseline petroleum jelly.
- Oil moisturizers: They are less greasy but still capable of providing nourishment to skin. Examples of oil moisturizers are baby oil, mineral oil, vegetable oil, and bath oil.
- Cream moisturizers: They are usually white in colour, but when applied on skin and rubbed, they easily get disappeared. So, don’t give a greasy look. Examples of Cream moisturizers are Vaseline Cream, Nivea, Neutrogena Hand Cream, etc.
- Lotion moisturizers: They are usually least greasy, friendly to use and so they are popular. They are composed of oily chemicals suspended in water or alcohol. Examples of Lotion Moisturizers are Vaseline Intensive Care, Neutrogena, etc.
Ingredients of Moisturizers
Few main ingredients of body lotion are
- Water: Itis the main ingredient of moisturizer and is present in more amount. It provides moisture to skin.
- Cynergy TK, Phytessence Wakame and Coenzyme Q10: These help for the growth of collagen in the skin, which is used to keep skin in condition.
- Lanolin: This helps to retain moisture in skin and provides a greasy feel.
- Tretinoin: It is a form of vitamin A which helps in nourishing and giving smooth and glowing appearance to skin.
