Social Ill’s Traced To Lack of Education On Ethics, Habits, and Value

Morals are the common standards of conduct or behavior as judged by an average person or at the social level at large. Similarly, principles that govern this behavior and rationally justify what is wrong or right are ethics.

Both morals and ethics are valuable assets of the society and work like two sides of the same coin. They uphold the sanctity of society so that it progresses toward development. Morality helps establish a healthy synthesis between people, so that they cooperate harmonically, and understand right or wrong to make a value-based society.

Society has entrusted agencies like families and schools with the responsibility of educating children and playing an important role in developing ethical and moral values among them. But nowadays, even though the modern materialistic world has raised our standard of living, it has declined our quality of life due to the erosion of moral values in our society.

Institutions of learning are mentoring efficient individuals but not creating good citizens. Society today is marked by violence, greed, theft, drug addiction, and rising crimes against women. Numerous social menaces are resulting out of a lack of education on ethics and morality. Here’s a peek into some of them.

Distress in young minds: Lack of education for young children on morality and ethics has unleashed a plethora of problems in society today. Children nowadays do not obey their elders and often disrespect them. Young generations are becoming much more self-centered and are mostly busy serving their own interests.

Disorientation in families: Many families are disorganized and confused either due to social or economic factors. The role of parents in the creation and development of a family is the most important factor. Unfortunately, parents now are much more worried about educating their children to earn a living than to teach them good moral values for a good life. Working parents fail to inculcate good discipline and manners in their kids. Parents are increasingly failing in regulating the activities of their children. Family life has also become very fast and hectic in comparison to earlier when family members used to spend a considerable amount of time together. Families are now getting detached too easily giving rise to a nuclear lifestyle. There are instances of people mistreating their old parents or even throwing them out.

Lack of empathy: The life of modern youth is a spiritual vacuum. The distinction between right and wrong, good and evil is slowly losing margin. The highest respect is now placed on wealth and power while religion is no longer a social and cultural belief but a private affair and human relations are impersonal and secondary.

Corruption: Corruption is a major social issue that prevails in almost all aspects of life. The main reason for this social evil is greed. People who want riches at any cost resort to underhand means which turns out to be corruption. Such people leave no stone unturned to earn money and lead a happy and luxurious life, maintaining a high standard and social status.

Drug addiction: Repeated use of drugs for a purpose other than medication is taking a toll on our society. Degradation of human values and self-love is mostly responsible for the mess apart from the lack of moral values taught from a young age. Relentless consumption of alcohol, sedatives, stimulants, and narcotics by youths is spreading tentacles in current society. Joblessness, poor educational background, and relationship problems have unleashed a wave of drug addiction.

Moral values and ethics are the most deterring factor against breakdown in the individual and societal standard of life. These principles hold the world together and alone can curb most social evils to a large extent. So it is very imperative to find out the major causes of the decline of morality in society.
